Sarah S

Hi, I’m Sarah and I’m from Derbyshire in the UK.  I became a Christian in 2015 when I was 48 years old after having been in lesbian relationships all my adult life.  I had gone to church as a child but never really understood about how Jesus wanted relationship with me, so when I started feeling attracted to other women, it wasn’t long before I ditched church and followed my heart.  It wasn’t that I didn’t believe in God, it’s just that I didn’t see the relevance and particularly thought that being gay disqualified me from relationship with him, which simply wasn’t true.

I didn’t go about looking for Jesus, I was caught unawares when I switched radio stations and heard a song that I had known in church.  As I listened to that channel, which turned out to be a Christian radio station, God started to work on my heart.  It’s funny, right up to the minute I gave my life to Jesus no one told me what I should or shouldn’t do as a lesbian exploring faith. It was about 9 months from first hearing that song on the radio to the day I surrendered my life to Jesus.  Throughout most of that time I was busy trying to prove that I could be gay and Christian, but the Holy Spirit was working in my heart showing me that it wasn’t his plan for me, it wasn’t what he had in mind for me when he created me.  As I studied the Bible I started to recognise that God’s plans for us are so much better than our own, which are tainted by this sinful world, and I chose to surrender my whole life to Jesus and seek relationship with him.

I cannot begin to tell you how amazing my life is now.  I am fulfilled in my relationship with Jesus, I am amazed at his faithfulness and goodness through the ups and downs of life, I have met people from all over the world who have similar testimony to mine and it’s a privilege to see how God is working in our lives to spread the gospel.

For me becoming a Christian meant the eventual breakdown of a 16 year relationship with my partner, she moved away and after 7 years I was so excited to hear from her that she too had given her life to Jesus.  What an amazing thing that is and I wanted to share that to encourage anyone who is in a relationship, God loves us and he looks out for us, always!
